Greene County district court, week ending Jan. 9

In Greene County district court Matthew James Kilts, 32, of Perry was granted a deferred judgment after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of possession of marijuana. He was placed on informal probation for one year and he must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at his own expense. Kilts must pay a civil penalty of $100, a $125 law enforcement initiative (LEI) surcharge, restitution to be determined, $619.24 restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees, and $100 court costs. (Sentencing: Honorable Adria A. Kester)Rebecca Lynn Chumbley, 31, of Grand Junction was granted a deferred judgment after she pleaded guilty to a charge of possession of marijuana. She was placed on informal probation for one year and must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at her own expense. Chumbley must pay a $325 civil penalty with a $125 LEI surcharge, along with restitution for her court appointed attorney’s fees to be determined and $100 court costs. (Sentencing: Kester)

Seth Michael Butler, 26, of Scranton was sentenced to two years in prison after he pleaded guilty to a charge of assault-aggravated, amended from assault causing bodily injury. The prison term was suspended and he was placed on probation for two years. He was fined $625 with a $218.75 surcharge. He must also pay $1,198.40 victim restitution, $90 restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees, and $100 court costs. A companion case in magistrate court in which Butler was charged with disorderly conduct was dismissed. (Sentencing: Kester)

Steven Logan Dzuris, 27, of Jefferson was sentenced to two days in jail after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of possession of methamphetamine. The jail time was suspended and he was placed on informal probation for one year. He must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at his own expense. His driver’s license was revoked for 180 days. Dzuris was fined $315 with a $110.25 surcharge, a $125 LEI surcharge, and a $10 drug abuse resistance education (DARE) surcharge. He must also pay $90 restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees and $100 court costs. (Sentencing: Kester)

Persons pleaded not guilty at arraignment as follows: Maxwell Steven McGlothlen, 21, of Ankeny, driving while license barred, assault on a peace officer and possession of marijuana; Ryan James Brown, 42, of Jefferson, possession of methamphetamine and unlawful use of prescription drugs (two counts); Jeffrey Lynn Jones II, 37, hometown unknown, operating while intoxicated (OWI)-third offense, possession of marijuana and driving while license revoked; Jacob Stanley Eischeid, 22, of Jefferson, possession of marijuana; and Erin M. Burnie, 34, of Jefferson, theft-fourth degree, theft-third degree (two counts), theft-second degree (three counts), burglary-third degree (five counts), ongoing criminal conduct, possession of marijuana and possession of methamphetamine. Trial dates were set for March 3 in every case.

Cases were initiated in district court as follows: Michael Marlin Matthews, 19, of Grand Junction, OWI-first offense; Patrick Ryan Thompson Sr, 24, of Grand Junction, possession of a firearm by a felon-second offense and carrying a weapon; Kylene Suzanne Rabourne, 36, of Duncombe, theft-second degree and burglary-third degree; and Larry Lee Warren Varnell, 21, of Churdan, driving while license barred.
